Taking care of your hot tub cover

When you have invested into buying a hot tub you are going to want to make sure that it is protected (not to mention clean) which means that one accessory that you have to buy is a hot tub cover. The thing about hot tub covers is that just like the hot tub itself, they need taking care of in order to make sure that they are working the best that they can.

So, how do you take care of the thing that is taking care of your hot tub? Here are some of the ways that you can prolong the life of your hot tub cover.

Invest in a cover lifter

When you are buying your hot tub and cover, chances are that you think that you should be able to lift the cover yourself when you want to use the hot tub. The thing is, at first a hot tub cover is relatively light and easy to lift up. However, over time they become heavier and this means that they are harder to lift.

Always remember to clip and unclip your straps

The lockable straps that are on your hot tub cover make sure that it doesn’t lift up during heavy winds, which can break the cover and even damage your hot tub too. This means that you must remember to clip down your cover once you have shut it. The only trouble with this is that you also have to remember to unclip them when you want to climb in, else you could end up damaging the straps and making the entire cover virtually unusable.

Never lift by the spine

If you haven’t invested in a cover lifter, then one thing that you must never do is be tempted to try and lift the cover using the insulation or the spine, This can lead to damage which will then effect how well the cover functions. Instead, you should always use the handle, especially since there are designed for this exact purpose.

Clean your cover

Seeing as your cover is out in the elements, it is going to get dirty. This means that you need to make an effort to clean it as much as possible. You only need to use a small amount of mild detergent on a soft cloth. You can then use this to gently clean the surface of the cover, before rinsing it all off with fresh water. Not only will this mean that your cover looks better, but will lessen the chance that there will be dirt and debris in your hot tub too.

The idea of having a cover for your hot tub (besides insulation) is that it protects it and makes sure that everything is clean underneath. Therefore it really does make sense that you need to do your best to take care of the cover, making sure that it takes care of everything else for you.
